Learning Beyond the Classroom: Houses, Sports and Values at Shanti

At Shanti English Medium School and Junior College of Science, we believe education is much more than textbooks and examinations. Every child has talents waiting to be discovered – on the stage, on the playground, in the laboratory and in the way they treat others. That is why co-curricular life is woven into every school day.

The house system

The house system is a permanent feature of our school. Throughout the year students represent their houses in inter-house competitions in debating, quiz, essay and short-story writing, elocution, extempore speech, music, singing, dance, drawing, painting, handicrafts and reading & writing. Inter-house games competitions are held too. Working together for their house teaches children teamwork, healthy competition and pride in their achievements – and the most talented are encouraged to represent the school at inter-school competitions.

Sports and physical fitness

Our spacious playground has well-laid courts for volleyball, throwball, basketball, football, handball and cricket, along with a dedicated play area for nursery children. Physical education, yoga, and Scouts & Guides are part of the regular curriculum, helping students build fitness, discipline and leadership qualities.

Arts, creativity and hands-on learning

Drawing, painting, music, dance and work experience give every child a way to express themselves. In our science, math and language laboratories, students learn by doing – experimenting, exploring patterns and practising listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Our open-air stage and auditorium host celebrations, programmes and events that bring the whole school community together.

Values for life

Moral and value education, a deep sense of patriotism and respect for all cultures are nurtured from the day a child joins us. Our all-women teaching staff follows the thought of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru that children are like buds in a garden, to be carefully and lovingly nurtured as the future of the nation.

When learning continues beyond the classroom, children grow into balanced, confident individuals – truly living our motto, “Arise and Shine.” Explore our Photo Gallery and News & Events to see school life in action.
